Water
Water
on a hot day,
pitchers filled with ice cubes.
Has there ever been refreshment
better?
Water
is our best friend—
until the rains won't stop,
the creeks rise, and the basement floods
again.
Until
hurricanes blow
tossing trees and houses,
and even people to the depths of
the sea.
Water,
Life's elixir.
We can't live without it.
Why do we always forget that
key point?
Water
beats us
in all battles.
We must remember if we're to
survive.

Wow I love the form. You are a master of that and so fine messages. You just write these each day? Hard to fathom that creative prificiency
Thank you, Michael. I’m so glad you can appreciate my efforts. In general, I’m not that prolific, but in April & November when the Poem A Day (aka PAD) challenge comes around, I usually go to the Writer’s Digest website where they post daily prompts for the PAD. (The rest of the year, they post weekly poetry prompts on Wednesdays.) Here’s the link if you’re interested: https://www.writersdigest.com/write-better-poetry
PS–The form is a cinquain. It’s a 5 line poem with the syllables for each line being 2-4-6-8-2
Powerful cinqs. Respect water.
Thanks, Cornelia! We all need to do a bit more of that, for sure.
Water is a double-edged sword, that’s for sure. I love how you the ordinary things we all take for granted as subject matter for some of your poems.
Thanks, Linda.
As you know, I often have issues with my basement flooding when Mother Nature decides to get feisty, and just this week my dishwasher decided it was not going to drain anymore, so I’m sure you can guess what my first thought was when I read the “water” prompt. LOL. It’s a fine line to go from the ordinary, everyday things and manage to give them a broader nuance so that others can relate to things that might be personal to me.
