Remembering the First Time

Do you remember the first time your “significant other” told you they loved you? The day? The circumstances? Some people think it’s silly and marvel that I remember it all, including the date—one of those people happens to be my dear husband, who is so much more than a “significant other”.

We’ve been laughing about it all day as I remind him it’s the 50th anniversary of the first time we said “I love you.” Maybe it is weird, but I remember the day the way I remember my wedding day or the birth of my children. It’s just there in my mind when I see June 4th. Anyway, as I was thinking about it today, this poem blossomed. I hope you like it, that it brings you a smile, and maybe a few “I love you” memories of your own.

PS–I’d love to hear if I’m the odd one out or if you;re like me and remember.

Do you remember
when you said
the three little words
that changed everything?
I love you.
Believe it or not,
I still do.
Every single day.
This picture was taken on our honeymoon, about 18 months after that first “I love you.”
