One More Thing Before You Leave

Like Juliet on the balcony,
I keep calling you back.
It's just the usual—one more thing,
nothing all that important really,
except another moment with you.
I know you think I'm needy,
always saying one more thing
to keep you with me just a little longer,
wanting one more hug,
one more kiss goodbye,
then maybe another one to be safe.
Maybe it's not so much need as it is greed.
Experience has taught me
there is never enough time
to be with the ones we love,
and I want as much time
with you as I can get.
So indulge me when
I say, “One more thing,”
and pull you close for
one more hug and kiss.
It's all because I love you.

    1. Dale! How wonderful to see your pixels again! I’ve missed you too, and am very glad you saw this poem as more than just a love poem to a single person, since that’s actually what I’d intended. Please don’t be a stranger! You have my email.

    1. Thanks, Rosemary! I’m pretty sure that’s one of the reasons why we still keep talking in the parking lot after we leave Applebee’s. LOL

  1. Yes, if only I could call my husband back for one more hug, because I really need it right now. When you are with someone so long they are part of your soul, and yes I keep calling him back, I can’t let him rest in peace. He was my hero my heart my soul. Your words are always exactly how I feel. Thank you so much for your heartfelt words.

    1. Thank you, Lucille. It’s comments like yours that make me realize why writing is so important. To know I’ve touched someone means the world. You’ve been missed so it’s wonderful to see you here again.
