I Like New Things But

I like new things but
new isn't always better.
I like tried and true.
I admit there are drawbacks,
old has its uses too.

Don't toss grandma out.
Good things are grandfathered in
because they still work.
Newness wears off very fast,
but old can shine with effort.

    1. Linda,
Don’t get me wrong–I love a lot of new things, but I do tend to cling to the old, and not just in physical things. When it comes to belief systems and behaviors, I tend to go with the old. A lot of they tell you is terrible and shouldn’t be done, especially when it comes to child-rearing, is BS, imo. I’m not saying there aren’t new findings or that when you know better you shouldn’t try to do better, only that things change and just because things might be different, that doesn’t mean they necessarily negate the old. When I see young mothers today ranting against the old ways, I sometimes want to say, “You didn’t die did you? You’re a functioning human being, aren’t you?” I don’t say it out loud–who needs the conflict?–but I think it.
