The Unknown Doorways
Hello Friends,
It’s been a while since my last blog post. To those who recently signed up for the newsletter to get an extra entry in September’s giveaway, you might have forgotten all about it, as quiet as it’s been. October turned out to be a whirlwind filled with good turns and some not so good ones. There were multiple happy anniversaries to be celebrated, a long awaited trip to Kentucky, family health issues, and my haunted laptop finally decided it was on its last legs and I’d better replace it before it truly bit the dust. Before I knew it October was over and it was time to start thinking about the November Poem-A-Day (aka PAD) Challenge.
So here I am, trying to get back into the swing of things. I don’t know if I’ll make 30 poems in 30 days, or that I’ll post every one that I do manage to write, but because it’s day one of the PAD and I didn’t write anything during October, here’s today’s effort. I’m not quite sure what I think of it, so I’d really love to hear your opinion.
The Unknown Doorways
Do not enter.
The signs were clear,
all the markings were there,
it was perfectly obvious
that this was not safe.
Yet they took a chance,
because there was no way around it.
Together they entered
a place they never wanted to go,
a place fate had forced upon them.
Holding tight to each other,
they faced the unknown,
because every instinct shouted
together was the only way through.
Time and time again,
that instinct had proven true,
so together they moved forward
to face whatever lay ahead.

I love it! It feels very timely.
Thank you so much, Linda. I think this one can relate to lots of different things, but I was hoping “timely” (without politicizing) would be at the top of the list.
Elise, this really resonated with me. Life doesn’t always give us what we want! You captured it succinctly.
Thank you, Sandy. I love hearing that. The thing about poetry (to me) is that the poet writes one thing, but the readers can relate to it in many different ways. Knowing that my words have resonated with someone means everything.
It made me feel …hopeful. ❤️it.
Thank you, Rosemary. Hopeful is good. We need to spread that around as much as we can.
