Summer Flies, Winter Crawls

Spring strolls along looking pretty.
We amble here and there
on not-quite-hot-not-quite-cold days,
sniffing newborn flowers and fresh cut grass,
when the world is gearing up for flight.

Summer flies
and we soar along with it,
enjoying the freedom
and the heights it brings.
Before we know it
summer is over and gone.

Autumn still moves at a brusque pace,
but not so fast that we can't take time
to grab a sweater and enjoy
the crunch of leaves under our feet
in a world that's turned
orange, yellow, red, and brown.

But winter crawls,
weighed down by
short days and long nights,
burdened by coats and blankets
meant to stave off the bleak cold
that never seems to end.

We creep along with it,
dragging ourselves forward,
because experience has taught us
that spring will come again,
and summer flies.

    1. Thanks so much, Linda. Makes me happy to hear it. The seasons are like human life cycles in a way, so maybe it’s a good thing we feel like winter crawls. 🙂
