Just Deserts
I’m not going to lie, it’s been a tough week for me. I like this to be a place for everyone, whether we agree on politics or not. Usually, that’s not very hard to do, but as I said, this week has been more difficult than most, so I hope you’ll bear with me.
What this place IS about is poetry. Usually it’s mine. Sometimes I showcase the poetry of others whose work I admire. What I want to share with you today is what poetry is all about, how it says what we feel with words that require you to listen. Even if you don’t agree with the message, you know it’s from the heart.
What follows is a link to a song called “Just Deserts,” written and performed by my daughter, CE Skidmore. She wrote this the day after the election, when so many Americans felt the same pain, but didn’t have the words, the talent, or the courage to be able to turn them into something other than grief.
Listen to the words and the haunting beauty of her voice. Turn up the volume. Listen to it again. And again.
Powerful. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Rob.

I don’t know that I have that much media power, but in my small way I try to spread decency and good in the world. I am thankful and very proud of the good and decent human beings I’ve raised, and I thought it was important to spread this beautiful song with as many people as I could reach.
