Not me
is too common.
Responsibility
accepted makes us better
people.

I wrote this poem from a prompt to write a poem beginning with “Not ____”. It’s a simple thought, simply put. You might ask what makes it poetry, especially if you’re not a person who generally likes poetry. Poetry doesn’t have to be elaborate or hard to understand, and it occurred to me Rudyard Kipling’s “If”, a poem which I’m sure most of you are familiar with, speaks more elegantly about being responsible than I ever could. To refresh your memory, take a moment to revel in John Hurt reading this classic poem.
