This Prufrockian Life
He wanders through
his Prufrockian life,
marked by timidity and indecisiveness,
beset by unfulfilled aspirations
and dreams he knows
will never come true.
He thinks there must be more than this,
but cannot imagine what that might be
or how it might come about.
He watches the women come and go,
unable to muster the courage to say hello
or even smile in greeting.
He will stand in the doorway,
alone and lonely,
until his face is as wrinkled as his trousers,
and his spirit as frayed as his cuffs.
