Welcome April! Month of showers, April Fools, and the PAD (Poem A Day) Challenge. First day, first first poem. One done, only 29 more to go! Wish me luck!

The April Fool

During the course of mundane days,

when routine overtakes conscious thought,

all roads look the same;

the world passes in a blur of the familiar,

seen, yet not seen.

I imagine a cartoon bubble above my head,

clouded over with not a word in sight,

just endless days of foggy gray.

A song comes on the radio,

and I am tossed to another time and place,

where azaleas bask in the bright sun;

we are young and driving down another road

with the windows open and the wind in my hair;

you are smiling at me with the smile

that says I am your happiness.

Filled with a longing so strong

it clogs my throat and threatens tears,

I wonder what April Fool trickery this is

and how can I make it last forever.
